What is an epoxy resin flower locket? (And why it lasts longer than you think)

If you have been looking at preserved flower lockets, you have probably seen the phrase epoxy resin come up. It sounds technical. It is actually pretty simple, and once you understand what it does, you will know exactly what to look for when you buy.

What epoxy resin actually is

Epoxy resin is a clear, hard-setting material that starts as a liquid and cures to a solid. When used correctly in jewelry, it creates a glass-like protective layer over whatever is inside. In the case of a preserved flower locket, the petals are arranged inside the locket and then sealed with resin, which hardens around them and holds them permanently in place.

Think of it as a tiny time capsule. The flowers go in. The resin seals them. The result is a piece that does not fade, does not decay, and does not lose its petals no matter how often you wear it.

Why not all resin lockets are the same

The quality of a resin locket depends on a few things most sellers do not talk about:

The type and grade of resin matters. Low-grade resin can yellow over time, especially when exposed to UV light. At Greene Is Gold, I use resin that is formulated to stay optically clear so the flowers inside look as vivid in five years as they do on day one.

The curing process matters. Resin needs proper cure time to set correctly. Rushed curing can leave the resin tacky, brittle, or prone to cracking. Each locket is given the full cure time it needs before assembly is completed. This is part of why a custom order takes about three weeks.

How the petals are set matters. The flowers need to be arranged before the resin is poured and must stay in position while it cures. Getting this right is the part that takes the most practice, and it is genuinely not something that can be rushed without it showing in the final piece.

What you get with a Greene Is Gold resin flower locket

Every locket I make uses real preserved flower petals sealed in clear epoxy resin. The result is a piece where the flowers look three-dimensional, vivid, and genuinely real, because they are. No artificial flowers, no printed botanical images, no shortcuts.

The Custom Flower Locket lets you choose exactly which flowers go inside. The Lily of the Valley Locket is our most loved design and uses genuine lily of the valley preserved in the same process.

I have been making these since 2020, and I have tested every variation of this process. The lockets I made in my first year still look exactly the same as the day they shipped.

How to care for a resin locket

Epoxy resin lockets are more durable than most people expect, but a few habits keep them looking their best:

Keep it away from prolonged direct sunlight when you are not wearing it. Wear it normally day to day without any concern. Avoid leaving it in extreme heat for long periods (a hot car in summer, for example). Clean the exterior gently with a soft cloth if needed.

That is genuinely it. No special storage, no delicate handling, no limitations on everyday wear.

With love,
Mikaela
